Assessment of ecological potential for tourism development using Analytic Network process (Case study: The west of Fars province)

Abstract

Assessment of ecological potential is an important part of programs in landuse planning that is following the best application from area and square distribution of facilities. So ecological potential have direct relationship with ecotourism and tourism, and is following determination capacity and ability of stable tourism. Area of the west Phars is one of the most important regions in ecotourism that have located variety of natural and cultural tourism assets. The research, has investigated ecological ability for recognition, protection and stable using of tourism potential in the west of Fars area. The first were evaluated 13 indices including slope, aspect, elevation, landuse, soil, geology, human settlements, services facilities, natural protection area, natural landscapes, climate, cultural and historical attractions, and road networks using Analytic Network Process (ANP). Then prepared a map in GIS for each index, and by overlaying the maps together prepared the final map of tourism ecologic potential. Output of Analytic Network Process model showed that the East, North and the south parts across to Zagros Mountains have high ecologic potential in developing natural tourism with splay outing characteristics. The central area in the region has capability for develop centralized outing and is capable for humanity and historical tourism.
