Local Community's Attitude towards Tourism Development (the Case Study: Target Villages of Tourism in Marvdasht Sub-province)

Abstract

Context and Purpose: In rural areas, especially the target villages for tourism, tourism development can be a suitable option for social vitality and rural development. The support of the host community is one of the main prerequisites for the rural tourism development.

Methodology: This research is practical in terms of purpose, and is descriptive-analytical in terms of nature and method. Statistical population of the research is the population of 18 years and older living in the tourist target villages located in Marvdasht sub-province, including Dashtak, Kondazi and Jidarzar. The data was collected by completing the questionnaire for 350 persons and the data analysis was done through conducting One-sample T-tests and multiple regression analysis and SPSS software.

Findings: The villagers' attitude towards the favorable consequences of tourism as well as the local community support for tourism development is higher than the average level. At the 95% confidence level, the combined effect of villagers' attitude towards the consequences of tourism on support for tourism development is significant, and it explains 72% of the variance of support for tourism development.

Conclusion: Sharing the host community residents in the economic benefits of tourism, developing infrastructure and providing the services needed by the host community and tourists, can play an effective role in strengthening the local community's support for tourism development.

Originality: This research is one of the few studies that examines the effect of the consequences of tourism on the local community's support for tourism in the target villages of tourism.
