Comparative study and analysis of the most important drivers for the development of medical tourism in Tabriz and Ardabil cities with futures study approach

Abstract

Context and Purpose: The globalization of health care has led to the emergence of a new type of tourism in cities, which is commonly known as medical tourism and health tourism. In Iran, the metropolises of Tabriz and Ardabil are known as one of the most important destinations of this type of tourism for domestic and foreign tourists due to their superior geographical location and having suitable medical facilities and equipment. Therefore, this research investigates and identifies the most important driving forces affecting the development of medical tourism in the cities of Tabriz and Ardabil the time horizon of 2022 (AH 2023) to 2032 (AH 2033).

methodology/approach: This research applied in terms of purpose and in terms of nature based on the methods of normative-analytical futures study science, which was carried out with a combination of documentary and survey methods. In order to collect the required data, a questionnaire was used, which includes 65 factors that were identified and extracted using the opinion of experts and completed using the opinion of 25 experts and experts using the Delphi method. In the next step, the strategic variables in the development of medical tourism in Ardabil and Tabriz cities have been used using the method of analyzing the cross-effects of factors in MicMac software.

Findings: The findings of the research show that among the 65 factors investigated in this research, 13 factors have been selected as key effective factors in the development of medical tourism in the cities of Tabriz and Ardabil
