Abstract

Background and Objective:

Literary tourism, as a branch of cultural tourism, offers opportunities to experience literary heritage and engage with the works and lives of authors. It encourages visitors to explore places mentioned in texts or associated with writers. This study aims to identify and analyze the factors influencing the development of literary tourism in Neyshabur, one of Iran’s key cultural destinations.

Methodology:

The research employed a descriptive–analytical approach, using documentary studies, library resources, and field surveys. A questionnaire was distributed among 384 respondents, including 215 tourists and 169 local residents. Data were analyzed using a one-sample t-test and Partial Least Squares (PLS) structural equation modeling.

Findings:

Results showed that “literary attractions and places” and “literary tours” exert the strongest influence on the development of literary tourism in Neyshabur. In contrast, “advertising and marketing” and “literary events” require greater attention and investment.

Conclusion and Suggestions:

To advance literary tourism, more efforts are needed to position Neyshabur as a literary destination and organize related events. The study provides practical recommendations for strengthening infrastructure and leveraging cultural capacities, thereby supporting economic and cultural growth.

Innovation and Originality:

This study is innovative in applying PLS modeling to identify and rank determinants of literary tourism. Its originality lies in integrating variables such as attractions, tours, events, education, and marketing into a comprehensive conceptual model. Including both tourists and locals in the sample offers a multidimensional perspective that surpasses earlier studies and provides a basis for policymaking and strategic development of literary tourism in Iran
